termites

A CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) survey revealed that on average 1 in every 5 homes are attacked by termites at some stage during their lives.  In some cases it can be as high as 1 in 3 Sydney (brown) is in a high risk area (see Termite Hazard map below).

A study by Griffith University has identified the real impact of termite attacks in Australia.  The research goes on to detail that the average cost in one particular area ranged from $18,000 to $60,000 per property, and it was estimated that 10% of Australian houses have had or will be infested by termites, with this figure rising to an 65% in some areas.  Thousands of home owners throughout Australia are unwittingly providing Australian Termites with an opportunity to eat their homes leading to thousands of dollars in damage causing an estimated annual cost of  780 million Dollars to houses in Australia.
How Termites Attack Your Home; Termites live in large underground nests containing up to several million timber destroying termites. Your home provides natural shelter and a food source for the termites. They can travel up to 100 metres to enter your home where there is a smorgasbord of timber to feast upon. Even concrete slabs won’t stop them as they search for entry points around the edges of the slab or penetrate through cracks to gain access to your home. Termites may create their nest in the cavity wall of the home without making ground contact and will cause extensive timber damage to the structure of your home.
